CARING FOR YOUR PRODUCT:
How do I clean my item(s)?
- It is best to hand wash the BioThane products with mild (bleach-free) soap and water as needed. If there is a peculiar scent, you may use a diluted white vinegar solution to rinse the gear with, followed by soap and water.
- We recommend letting the gear air dry completely before placing back on your dog. This will ensure your dog’s neck doesn’t become exposed to any opportunistic microbes. This will also extend the life of certain metals used for the hardware.
Can anything harm my items?
- UV light may face the colors of your items if they are left in the sun for extended periods.
- Insect repellents (especially DEET containing products, heartworm preventative, etc.) may stain the material. It is recommended that you take the gear off before putting on these substances. You can also avoid the staining by using a DEET-free/all natural repellent on your dog.
How do I care for the hardware?
- Lemon juice is an excellent cleaner for solid brass hardware to help prevent the inevitable patina. The discoloration will wash off (if it occurs) and can be avoided again with regular cleaning.
- Martingales, metal buckles, etc. are not solid brass. This means they likely contain a metal alloy (likely mixed with iron) that is susceptible to corrosion. Proper maintenance with gentle cleansing of warm water and mild soap followed by drying with a cloth will help extend the life of these items. These items will not be replaced due to corrosion, normal wear and tear, etc.
